Wanda Jean McCoy, 93, of Cleburne, Texas, passed away January 27, 2026, in Burleson, Texas with her daughter by her side.

Wanda Jean Splawn McCoy was born May 9, 1932, at home in Boyd Texas to Grover C. Splawn and Hattie B. Flowers Splawn. Wanda became a doting and protective big sister to Melvin in 1938. She took being a big sister very seriously, and she always kept a watchful eye on Melvin at school and as they began their own families.

Grover Splawn moved his family to Godley Texas to become the minister of First Assembly of God Church Godley while Wanda and Melvin were in grade school. Wanda was active in sports in Godley and was a proud Godley ISD graduate in 1949.

Both of her children were also active in sports and graduates of Godley ISD. This was a tradition they all cherish to this day.

Wanda married Offard Wayne McCoy December 29, 1951 in Cleburne Texas. Wayne courted Wanda while also serving in active duty in World War II and the Korean War. There have been rumors of a ‘Dear John’ letter during this courtship, but we have not seen the letter ourselves, so it will stay a rumor.

Wayne and Wanda were married 67 years at the time of Wayne’s passing in 2019. They were active members of Bethel Temple Assembly of God until they went home to be with their Savior. They had two children, Ronny McCoy and Carla McCoy who are a living testament to their commitment and love. They shared many wonderful journeys as they traveled, camped, and fished with many dear friends and family over the years. They took their grandchildren on a camping trip every summer.

This was a time that was truly cherished by them all. Ronny McCoy and Carla McCoy can both attest to their dedication, love, sacrifice, and joy throughout their lives.

After her retirement from JC Penney, they travelled all across the United States with their traveling partners, Melvin and Jewel. She enjoyed finding those nickel slot machines along the way as well.

Wanda played the piano, organ, and accordion. Ronny recalls that she could play anything with keys! She was self-taught and played by ear. She served alongside Wayne in his 30-year ministry at First Assembly of God in Godley, Texas.

Wanda cared for many children in Godley and Cleburne throughout her life, and they keep in contact to this day.

Wanda is survived by her son, Ronny McCoy of Godley, wife Renee; daughter Carla McCoy of Cleburne; grandchildren, Colista Learmont, husband Tanner of Grandview; Hattie Bustos, husband Michael of New Braunfels; Dustin Burgess, wife Brooke of Waco; Matthew McCoy; bonus granddaughters, Brittany Armendariz; Tiffany Hankins; great-grandchildren Wyatt, Leon, Walker Burgess; Emma Bustos; Brenton and Brazos Learmont; Mackenzie McCoy; Dax McCarty; Ryland Hankins; sister-in-law, Jewel Splawn and numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Wayne McCoy; parents Grover and Hattie Splawn; brother GC Splawn and brother Melvin Splawn.

Wanda lived a wonderful life, and we will miss her dearly. We’re not saying good-bye but see you soon. We love you Mom, Momma, Nan!
