A Celebration of Life service for William Alvin Baker, 87, of Johnson, Texas, will be held on Sabbath afternoon, May 23, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church Chapel Sabbath School, located at 114 South Fairview Street, Keene, Texas 76059.

William Alvin Baker, lovingly known as Bill, Uncle Bill, or WA, of Keene, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at the age of 87.

Bill was born on August 31, 1938, in Galveston, to William Alvin Baker Sr. and Marie Elizabeth (LePori) Baker. Throughout his life, he became known for his kindness, humor, wisdom, steadfast work ethic, generosity, storytelling, deep faith, and sincere love for family and friends.

His career as a music teacher took him across the United States, where he inspired countless students through his remarkable talent and passion for music. His knowledge and education were matched by a generous spirit and a genuine desire to help others. Bill also devoted many years to instrument repair through his business, Clarion Music, faithfully serving musicians and the community with skill, patience, and care.

Bill found great joy in music, gardening, cooking, fellowship, camping, jeeping, and attending Merry TubaChristmas each year, which he always looked forward to. He also enjoyed watching Little House on the Prairie and The Andy Griffith Show, and spending time with those he loved. Many will fondly remember his warm presence, memorable stories, quick wit, and the way he made everyone feel at home. He had a unique gift for bringing people together and leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Above all, Bill deeply loved his family and friends. He spoke often and proudly of those closest to him and treasured every moment shared together.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Alvin Baker Sr. and Marie Elizabeth (LePori) Baker; sister, Margaret Marie Kerbs & her husband, Adam Kerbs; and dear friend, Stan Elmendorf.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne Baker; honorary grandsons Zander Jenkins, Zach Jenkins, and Austin Loignon; sister, Carolyn Ann Jensen & her husband, Ron L. Jensen; nephews, Richard Eugene Kerbs & his wife, Dawn, and John Kerbs & his wife, Genni; niece, Cynthia Beach & her husband, John; niece Ronnamarie Jensen & her husband, Jeffrey D. Shadley; great-nephews, Jason Kerbs, Cameron Jensen, Chet Shadley, and Shawn Jenkins; great-nieces, Whitney Proctor, Brittney Kerbs, and Shelby Kerbs; along with many extended family members, dear friends, students, and loved ones whose lives he touched throughout the years.

Though deeply missed, Bill’s legacy of faith, love, friendship, music, kindness, and service will continue through all who knew him. With grateful hearts, we rejoice in the blessed hope of the resurrection and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
