Virginia Burgess Stepp passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 in Keene, Texas. She was born on February 8, 1926 in Cleburne, Texas. During her 100 years, she experienced and witnessed the world changing in ways most cannot imagine – always staying positive and moving forward, no matter what she faced. Virginia was an honest lady – the epitome of class and style, who possessed an un-wavering strength with a streak of stubbornness. It has been said that she was strong-willed and feisty, yet tender-hearted and loving at the same time.
She was a life-long member of Field Street Baptist Church. Virginia worked as a receptionist with the Cleburne ISD and then Cleburne Funeral Home and Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home before retiring.
Virginia married Marshall T. Stepp on February 19, 1943 in Hood, Texas. They were married almost 28 years at the time of his death (November 12, 1970). Above all titles she had, wife, mother and Mimi, were her most treasured. Virginia believed in family and loved her family beyond measure. She was a caretaker for several family members and advocated for their care to be nothing less than the best. Virginia was the kind of mother and grandmother that inspired others to be better and love harder. The lessons and legacy she leaves with her family are rooted in faith, love of family and being the best you can be – smiling and dancing through whatever comes your way.
Virginia enjoyed music and dancing as often as she could. She could often be found tending to her flowers or gardening. Her smile was contagious and lit up every room she entered. Her quick wit often caught those around her off guard and kept you on your toes. She will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved her – always remembered as a storm not to be reckoned with.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H. Virgil and Katie Mae Carlock Burgess; husband, Marshall T. Stepp; daughter, Marsha Rynd; twin sons, Rickey and Nickey Stepp; and siblings, Leon Burgess, Donald Ray Burgess, Virgil Johnson, and Jannelle Johnson.
Survivors include her grandchildren and their spouses, Nathan Stepp, Marshall Stepp, Michael Stepp, Makenna Stepp, Anna Stepp Roe, Katie Stepp Cunningham, and Ryan Stepp; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; daughter in law, Brenda Stepp; and a host of other relatives and friends.
