Service for Thomas “Tom” Clayton Barger, 85, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 31, 2014 in the Bible Baptist Church, 1513 W. Westhill, Cleburne. Dr. Don Shipman will officiate. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Johnny Carlock, Weldon York, Tollie Carson, Mike Carlock, David Peugh and Alan Lancaster. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Kimbell, Donald Barron, Casey Barger, Gene Threadgill and Curtis Lane.
Thomas “Tom” Clayton Barger passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Cleburne. He was born to Toliver Thomas and Beulah Lottie Maples Barger on January 9, 1929 in Alvarado. Tom married Ruby Jo Hanna on January 27, 1951 in Rio Vista. They were blessed with two sons, Thomas Bradley and Gary Don. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Cleburne. Tom served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He retired from the Texas Highway Department in December 1990, after 38 years of service.
Tom was a family man; he always put his family first. When you said “I love you” he would always say “I do you too.” He enjoyed the outdoors. Tom especially loved fishing camping, gardening and tinkering with anything. When you saw Granddad you would always see a fishing pole or a garden hoe in his hands. He enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers, any western shows, especially John Wayne and Swamp People.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Charlotte Evans, Wilmarine Lancaster and Doris Stanley and grandson, Chris Barger.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruby Barger; children and their spouses, Brad and Belinda Barger and Gary and Glenda Barger; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
