Mrs. York passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023 in Cleburne. In the weeks leading up to her passing, she was visited by many family and friends who came to reminisce about the times they shared together. She was the oldest of seven children and was lucky enough to have a close relationship with all of her siblings.

Ruth was born on April 28, 1931 to Simon and Blanche Bullard of Cleburne, TX. In 1949, she married J.W. Hughes and together they had two children, Danny Hughes and Cheryl Watkins. Then in June of 1966, Ruth married Charles “Chuck” Ray York and they remained happily married until his passing in 2010. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Cleburne. Mrs. York worked as an accountant/controller for HKS Architects in Dallas with 22 years of service. She was named an Associate at HKS Architects in 1985 and was part of the original “five”. Ruth was a member of the Midlothian Order of Eastern Star, twice served as Worthy Matron OES, and past president of Lady Elks. She was a former member of Lady Elks and the King's Daughters Victory Circle. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, daughter, and granddaughter all over the United States in their RV. Her favorite trip was driving up the east coast during the fall to see the leaves change. Ruth enjoyed showing off her green thumb gardening and taking care of beautiful indoor plants. She was most well known for her cooking - especially her pies! She enjoyed sharing this passion with her granddaughter, Kristi, and the two have always had a special bond in the kitchen.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Kristi Ramirez and husband, Mikey of Waxahachie; brothers, James ”Sonny” Bullard, and Kenneth Bullard and wife, Dianne both of Cleburne; sisters, Shirley Coward and husband, Manning of Cleburne, Sue Mitchell of Cleburne, and Dianne Hasty and husband, Ronnie of Granbury; numerous nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. York was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Blanche Bullard; husband, Chuck York; son, Danny Hughes; daughter, Cheryl Watkins; son-in-law, Randy Watkins; and sister, Vera Nell “Shorty” Green.
