Philip Anthony “Phil” Westerman, 55, passed away surrounded by his family on December 3, 2025, in Fort Worth, TX. He was born on June 16, 1970, in Battle Creek, MI, to Larry Westerman and DeeAnn (Wrate) Cabbett.

Known to many as “Flipper” during his childhood, Philip grew up in Battle Creek. He attended Fremont Elementary, W.K. Kellogg Junior High, Battle Creek Central High School, and later Great Lakes Adventist Academy, where he graduated in 1989.

Philip was active and energetic, playing sports such as floor hockey, swimming, and wrestling. As he grew older, he discovered his true passions: playing the trumpet and singing. These gifts became central to his life. He shared them generously, especially in his church, and nothing brought him more joy than performing duets with his daughter, Reagan.

One of Philip’s most cherished experiences was serving as a missionary in Manaus, Brazil, a time that deeply shaped his spiritual journey. He later returned to Brazil to participate in an evangelist campaign with the Voice of Prophesy. He went on to earn his B.A. in Religion from Andrews University in 1994.

On August 8, 1994, Philip married the love of his life, Maryon Boyd, and together they built a beautiful life over 31 wonderful years. They were blessed with three children: Staton, Nolan, and Reagan, his greatest pride and joy.

Throughout his career, Philip held a variety of meaningful roles, including youth chaplain at Highland Academy in Portland, TN; financial consultant with Primerica; border portal agent; and senior project manager for McAllen Valley Roofing Co.

A devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Philip served faithfully in many capacities. He loved sharing his testimony through music and teaching Sabbath School. He especially enjoyed hosting with Maryon a playful Christmas tradition he called “Sing for Your Supper” and 4th of July parties in their home. Philip had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen, valued, and loved, always pointing them toward Jesus. God and family were the center of his life, and his greatest desire was to be a faithful witness.

Philip will be remembered for his bright smile, contagious laugh, and the encouragement he offered so freely. He was a leader, a mentor, and even a bit of a comedian, often showing off what he jokingly claimed was his “most unique talent”: making a faucet dripping sound with his mouth. In his final act of kindness, Philip gave the ultimate gift through organ donation, continuing his lifelong pattern of helping others.

Philip was preceded in death by his father, Larry Westerman; his mother, DeeAnn (Wrate) Cabbett; his grandparents, David and Audrey Wrate; and his brother, Vincent Westerman.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maryon Westerman; his children, Staton, Nolan, and Reagan Westerman; his siblings JoDee (Mike) Overfield, Nicholas Westerman, Jacki (Randy) Gaytan, and Mike (Michelle) Elrod; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
