A funeral service for Owanna Ruth (Townes) McGee, 87, of Cleburne, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the Bono Baptist Church in Godley, Texas with Pastor John Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in the Bono Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Bono Baptist Church youth ministry in lieu of floral tributes for the service.
Owanna Ruth McGee, a cherished member of her family and community, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, in Cleburne, Texas. Born on November 6, 1938, in Keene, Texas, Owanna's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, her loved ones and the warmth she brought to those around her.
Owanna grew up in Cleburne and was a 1957 graduate of Cleburne High School where she was a member of the orchestra. Owanna played the cello in the orchestra and won many awards. Her love of music continued, and she started singing in choirs at the age of 16 and continued until she reached 70 years old. She attended nursing school in 1959 where she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She was a compassionate, caring nurse for 30 years before retiring.
She spent a great deal of time in the PTA, where she was President of Pre School PTA. During this time, she was responsible for the play area created at the City Park which has grown over the years.
Owanna loved the Lord most of all and was a member of Bono Baptist Church. Owanna was a wife sent from God to her grateful husband, Tommy McGee. Upon retirement Owanna and Tommy’s traveling began. They went to all 50 states in the U.S. They took multiple cruises on Royal Caribbean and toured Spain, France, Monaco, Turkey, Croatia, Rome and especially Italy. She loved to travel.
Owanna was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Lee Townes and Frankie (Bryant) Townes, who instilled in her the values that she carried throughout her life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tommy McGee; her children, Robyn McGee, Gayland McGee and his girlfriend Kay, Tommy Kyle McGee, Sabrina Satterfield and her husband Mike; grandchildren, Kaylee Arteaga and her husband David, Blake Satterfield and his wife Shay, and Crystalie Camp; her great-grandchildren, Kennedy Arteaga, Kinsley Arteaga, Madison Camp, Emily Camp, Tyler Satterfield, Thomas Satterfield, and Maverick Satterfield; her cherished dog, Paris and a host of other relatives and friends.
Owanna Ruth McGee will be dearly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those she loved.
