Odell McCowen

A memorial gathering and visitation for Odell McCowen, 80, of Alvarado, will be held from 6-8:00 P.M., Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the funeral home.

Odell passed away Monday, October 9, 2023, in Alvarado. He was born June 29, 1943 in Cleburne to Gus Horace and Hazel Marie (Bayless) McCowen. Odell married Linda Forand, September 28, 1989 in Cleburne. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He owned and operated Odell’s Welding & Maintenance from 1993-2005. Odell worked hard his whole life, retiring at the age of 62. He was a gentle giant with a giving heart. It can be said that he was generous to a fault. Odell gave the best hugs and was quick to tell you that you were loved. He was family oriented and loved to feed everyone. Odell was an animal lover and gun enthusiast who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was quite the jokester, always laughing. Odell will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife Linda McCowen; children, Lori McCowen, Billy Garner and wife, Jamie, and Justin McCowen and wife, Michelle; 10 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Sue Ingram; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends, including his beloved dog, Bear.

Odell was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Horace McCowen, Jr., Patrick McCowen, Jerry McCowen, and Kenneth “Pete” McCowen.
