Melvin Joseph “Mel” Todd passed away in his home in Kopperl on Saturday, June 13, 2026. He was born on December 29, 1943 in Cushion, Oklahoma. He married Ona Bell Etchison Todd on January 15, 1970 in Whitney, Texas. They were married 56 years at the time of her passing (February 27, 2026). Mel was a member of the Full Gospel Church, Rio Vista. He worked as a welder for many years for Flat Top Ranch. Mel was known as a hard-working man who believed in doing things the right way. His stern stance on this belief made him easily the “rock of the family” and for so many others. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. Mel was a family man, in every aspect of the phrase. His priority was his family, in which his love for them shone brightly. The many lessons he instilled into those he loved will echo in their character and memories for generations to come. Mel will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Edward Todd and Edith Marie Grimes Todd; wife, Ona Bell Etchison Todd; sons, Melvin Todd, Jr., and Billy Don Barker; and siblings, Imogene E. Dillon, Virginia Mae Silkwood, Norman E. Todd, Lillie Marie Pierce, Helen L. Jester, Bobby M. Todd, Norma J. McBride, and Donald W. Todd.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Barker; son, David Barker; grandchildren, Kerstyn Perkins, Lauryn Lacy, Chase Lacy, Kenneth Barker, Joseph Barker, Preston Kasparek, Cassie Kasparek Barryhill, and Ellen Dawn Milne; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Arzella Mae Dennis, and Dolly June Jaunch; sister-in-law, Pearl Hardin; and numerous other family members and friends, including his beloved dog, Ruben.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Wings Over Texas Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Mel.
