There are no set services scheduled for Mattie Lulie (West) Cannon.
Mattie Lulie (West) Cannon, 88, of Godley Texas, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. Mattie was born on September 26, 1937 to Annie Mae (Wills) West and Joe Ben West in Terrell County, Georgia. There is no service scheduled at this time.
Mattie married her high school sweetheart, Richard Smith and began her journey as a military wife, traveling around the country from base to base, retiring in Fort Worth, TX after 23 years. Sadly, Mattie and Richard divorced and years later she married Doyle L. Cannon. Mattie and Doyle relocated to Godley, where they lived a quiet, country life for almost 50 years.
Mattie was a hard working, kind, loving, supportive woman, with a great sense of humor. In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, learning new things and caring for her many pets. One of her greatest joys was helping raise her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved decorating for Christmas and took great pride in her Christmas Village display. Mattie always took the time to look her very best and one of her family’s favorite memories is thinking the car wouldn’t start until she put on her lipstick. She is remembered by all as having a sweet tooth, especially for her pecan pie, banana pudding and, of course, chocolate.
She was preceded in death by her husband Doyle, her grandson Brian Widger, and her six brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her children, Terrie (Smith) Widger and her husband Bob; Karen Diedrich and her husband, Frank; Aaron Smith and his husband Paul VonHeeder; her stepchildren Sonny Cannon, Rodney Cannon, Danny Cannon, Stephanie (Cannon) Corr and their families; her grandchildren Sylvia Contreras, and Melissa (Widger) Fellows; her great-grandchildren Marilena and Joaquin Fernandez, Roberto Contreras, Lilliana and Jackson Fellows.
We will carry our memories and Mattie’s love in our hearts until we meet again.
