Mattie L. Cannon, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on September 26, 1937, in Terrell County, Georgia, Mattie lived a life rich with love and joy, particularly finding fulfillment in raising the next generation.
Throughout her life, Mattie embraced the roles of mother and grandmother with unwavering dedication. She found joy in raising the next generation.
She was preceded in death by her husband Doyle L. Cannon; her parents, Joe and Annie West; her grandson Brian Widger, and her siblings. She is survived by her children, Terrie Widger and her husband Bob, Karen Deitrich and her husband Frank, and Aaron Smith and husband Paul Van Heeder; her step-children, Sonny Cannon, Rodney Cannon, Danny Cannon, and Stephanie Corr; her grandchildren, Sylvia Contreras and Melissa, and great-grandchildren, Miralena Contreras, Joaquin Contreras, Robert Contreras, and Lilly, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
As we reflect on Mattie's life, we honor her spirit and the profound impact she had on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her joy in nurturing those around her will be dearly missed, but her memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort to her family and friends.
