Mary JoAnne Moses passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, in her beloved home in Cleburne, Texas.

Mary was born on October 11, 1938, in Ranger, Texas, to Palmer Stanley White and Rita Blankenship. Raised in a family of deep faith as the daughter of a Southern Baptist preacher, she developed a strong foundation in Christ that guided her throughout her life. She remained a faithful member of Parker Baptist Church, living in service to others and reflecting her faith daily.

A lifelong resident of Cleburne, Mary was a strong and resilient woman who always put her family first, leading with love and unwavering devotion. She was known for her incredible work ethic and unforgettable presence—often arriving with her signature pink foam rollers still in her hair, ready to take on the day. Her determination and dedication were passed down to her children and grandchildren.

Mary lived a vibrant life, enjoying dressing up and country western dancing at the senior citizen center, bringing joy and laughter wherever she went. She had a spirit that was both lively and comforting, making everyone feel at ease.

She was, in every sense, “the old lady in the shoe,” always opening her home and heart to others. Mary never turned away anyone in need, and her generosity made everyone feel like family.

Mary served others as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and through her work with the Cleburne Police Department as a meter maid and dispatcher. She lived with quiet strength, kindness, and grace.

She found happiness in simple things, especially gardening and spending time outdoors. Her life was a testament to love, faith, and selflessness. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years, Maurice Byron Moses, Jr.; her sisters, Helen Henderson and Barbara White; her brothers, John White and James Dalton White; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Helen (“Hootie”) Shirley; sons Roy Veal and wife Gabriela, Jon Veal, Anthony (“Curly”) Veal and wife Jill, Jaye Mangrum and wife Kristie, Terry Mangrum and wife Cindy, Daniel Cogdill and wife Amberley; and bonus son Darrin Moses; along with numerous nieces, nephews, 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
