Mary Ellen (Bates) Barber

Graveside services for Mary Ellen Bates Barber, age 80, of Godley, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 5, 2024, in Rosehill Cemetery, with Chaplain Eddy Carrell officiating.

Mary passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Glen Rose, Texas. She was born on February 17, 1944, in Hugo, Oklahoma. Mary had a devoted marriage to Marvin (Buddy) Edgar Barber until his passing in 2002. She was a woman of faith and was active in the Baptist community.

Professionally, Mary had a successful career as a Greyhound dog trainer, showcasing her passion for animals. She was known for her warmth, generosity, and culinary skills, being a wonderful cook who enjoyed bringing family together around the table. Mary took great pride in raising her four children, she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mary is survived by her children, Timothy (Tim) Wayne Barber; Marilyn Lurene Barber Kelley and her husband, Russell; and Vanita Angela Barber Ellis. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and daughter-in-law, Donna Barber. Additionally, she is remembered by her siblings, Myra Anna Bates Belvin, Nita Jean Bates McKinney, Gerald Wayne Bates and his wife, Jean, Naomi Joyce (Mollie) Bates Higginbotham and her husband, Wayne, Kenneth (Kenny) Neil Bates and his wife, Karen, and Robert (Robbie) Joe Bates and his wife, Carla.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Everett Laffette and Neoma Lavera Lovings Bates; her husband; her son, Buddy Marcus Barber; and her siblings, Carl Edward Bates, Coy Laffette Bates, Glenna Sue Bates Andrews, and Everett Bates.

Mary Ellen Bates Barber's legacy of love and kindness will continue to resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
