After high school graduation, Betty attended Texas Christian University. She started her working career at the Johnson County Courthouse. Betty was a stay-at-home mom through her children’s younger years and later worked in admissions at Johnson County Memorial Hospital.
Betty enjoyed traveling and had the privilege of visiting several countries. She enjoyed her years with duplicate-bridge partners as they competed on bridge tournaments throughout the state. Betty made many lifelong friends. Nancy Ferguson Holloway, Barbara Palmer, Joyce and Monte Swatzell and Barbara Jones kept close contact with her through her last days. Neighbors, Linda and Robbie Wallace, Shellie and David Carter and Jen Cimo kept very close watch over Betty and niece, Ruth Scogin was so attentive to all of Betty’s needs.
Betty had a huge heart and was particularly compassionate when it came to animals and birds. Her beloved pet Eddie was always by her side. Betty constantly doted over recent pets, Sophie and Mr. Kitty. Betty’s devotion to Sophie’s need for a daily walk surpassed her own failing health.
Betty’s greatest loves were her daughter, Marsha and son, Tommy. She lived for their visits and spoke often of her unfailing love for them and their families. Betty was always eager to talk about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty was a long-time and oldest continuous member of the First Baptist Church in Cleburne.
