A funeral service for Marcye Lee (Baldwin) Hunter affectionately known as “Dear”, 92, of Cleburne will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 317 North Brazos Avenue, Cleburne, TX 76031, with Reverend David Baldwin and Reverend Drew Hogan officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Cleburne. There will be a time of visitation for family and friends from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, prior to the service.
Marcye Lee Hunter, a beloved member of her community, passed away on June 29, 2025, in Cleburne. Born November 2, 1932, in Dayton, Texas, Marcye was known for her spunky spirit, deep faith, and unwavering love for her family, church, and education.
She devoted a significant part of her life to serving as the first lady of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church alongside her husband, Cornelius Hunter. Marcye’s commitment to her faith and her community was evident through her lively presence and passionate involvement in church activities. As a special education teacher, she impacted countless lives, demonstrating her profound belief in the potential of every child.
Marcye is preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius Hunter, daughter, Wanda Elaine Clay; parents, Joe Baldwin and Mabel Guidry; and three siblings.
She is survived by her children, Tammy Washington and Erick Hunter; grandchildren, Destany Williams, Chelvalier Levels (Marcus), Tremaine Clay (Jessica), Geneva Washington, Genova Smith (Bernard), Aubree Washington, Quinten J. Washington II, Juli'el Hunter, and Ja'Quarius Hunter; 11 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, son-in-law, Robert Clay, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Marcye Lee Hunter will be remembered not only for her dedication to family and faith but also for her indomitable spirit that inspired all who knew her. Marcye's legacy will live on through her family and the countless individuals whose lives she touched through her teaching and ministry.
