On Sunday, June 26, 2022, Lavada passed away at the age of 95. She was born March 17, 1927, in Brazos Point, Texas to Jesse “Shorty” and Lula Thompson Mears. She and her six siblings were raised farming and working cotton fields in Bosque and Johnson County. On February 17, 1949, she married Sidney Lee Moore, Jr., residing in Benbrook, Texas. They soon moved out to the country south of Godley, Texas where they farmed and raised two sons, Richard and Paul. Sid and Lavada were married for 52 years until his passing in 2001. Upon moving to Godley, Lavada became an active member of the Godley United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and participated in many church activities. Lavada projected an unwavering love of family, friends, and a genuine kindness to strangers. Her passion, as most people soon knew, was fiddle music and dancing. Her father, uncles, and brothers are/were accomplished fiddle players. Gathering together and making music was a definite joy and break from the hard work in the cotton fields. Later in life, Lavada also took up playing the fiddle and encouraged that appreciation for fiddle music to her children and grandchildren.

Lavada is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney; her parents; siblings, Delta Schad and husband, Bill, Visie Scarberry, Kathryn Roberts, Arthur Mears and wife, Norma Lou, Walter Mears and wife, Jan, and her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Moore.

She is survived by her son, Richard Moore and wife, Ronda; son, Howard Paul Moore; brother, Jesse Mears; brothers-in-law, Wando Scarberry and Jerry Roberts; granddaughters, Monica Smith, Brittany McCarty, Angie Vackers and husband, Scott, Tiffany Hankins and husband, Josh; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Hailey Smith, Dax McCarty, Micah and McCai Vackers, Joshua and Ryland Hankins; nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
