Janet Elizabeth (Collins) Mitchell, a cherished prayer warrior and beloved member of her church community, passed away on April 24, 2026, in Cleburne, Texas. Born on October 17, 1959, in San Angelo, Texas, Janet lived a life marked by devotion, love, and simplicity.
Janet was a woman whose heart deeply resonated with faith and family. She was known for her unwavering commitment to her church, where she found strength and purpose. Beyond her spiritual life, she delighted in the simple joys of cooking and had a particular fondness for cooking shows, which reflected her warm and nurturing spirit. Janet treasured her role as a mother and grandmother, often referred to affectionately as “Nana,” and took immense pride in her family’s achievements and happiness.
A dedicated professional, Janet devoted twelve years to serving the Cleburne Independent School District, contributing meaningfully to her community’s educational landscape. Her work reflected her caring nature and commitment to others.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Marrie and Eda Collins, as well as her siblings James Collins Jr., Mary Lou Stephens, and Russell Collins.
Survivors include her devoted husband of fifty years, Jerry Mitchell Sr.; her children, Jerry Mitchell Jr. and his wife, Christina, Edmon Mitchell and his wife, Jessica, Karrie Wilson and her husband, Cody, and Ethan Mitchell and his wife, Jessica; her stepson, Cecil Peck; her grandchildren, Zachary Mitchell, Hailey Lancaster, Abigail Mitchell, Dakota Mitchell, Danielle Mitchell, Patrick Wilson, Peyton Mitchell, Evelyn Wilson, Hannah Mitchell, and Emma Mitchell; her step-grandchildren, Tristan Peck, Cecil Peck Jr., Joey Peck, and Nicole Banda; her great-grandchildren, Ivy Torres, Weston Mitchell, Benjamin Mitchell, and Nathaniel Mitchell; her siblings, William Collins and his wife, Dotty, and Michael Collins and his wife, Brenda; as well as numerous other friends and relatives.
Janet Elizabeth Mitchell will be remembered as a simple yet profoundly strong woman, whose love for her family and faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her passing leaves a space that will be deeply felt, yet her memory remains a guiding light for all who knew her. We honor her life and the many roles she embraced with such warmth and devotion.
