James Markum

A Celebration of Life will be held for James A. “Jim” Markum, 77, of Cleburne at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Chapel.

Jim passed away in Fort Worth on Friday, June 3, 2022. He was born to Earl and Lula Rhoades Markum on December 30, 1944 in Waxahachie, Texas. Jim served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He married Gloria Jean Nunn on June 13, 1969 in Grandview. He was a member of Nolan River Road Baptist Church. Jim worked as a machinist at Manville for 41 years at the time of his retirement in 2012. He was a double lung transplant recipient ten years ago. His resiliency has shown brightest during this chapter of his life. Rara, as he was known by his grandchildren, was fiercely devoted to his family. He was known as a quiet man, of few words, but one that you listened to when he did have something to say. Jim enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially camping, fishing and grilling. His loving nature and ability to persevere left an everlasting mark on those around him. He will be missed greatly. Jim was preceded in death by his son, Brian Keith Markum; parents (listed above); brother, Robert Markum; and sister, Ann Vaughn.

Survivors include his wife of almost 53 years, Gloria Markum; son, James A. Markum and his wife, Jennifer; daughter, Brandee Fagan; 7 grandchildren, Macy Wyatt, Hannah Fagan, Elizabeth Markum, Gerald Brazell, III, Jacob Markum, Spencer Fagan and Benjamin Markum; 1 great granddaughter, Reagan Wyatt; sisters, Frances Mathias, Dottie Finney and Sheila Pruitt; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to their UT Southwestern Medical Center team, who became much more like family to them, for their loving and dedicated care to Jim and the rest of the family over the years.
