Dennis Richard Johnson, lovingly known as Rick, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on May 14, 2026.
Rick was born on June 10, 1944, in Britt, Iowa, to Bill and Martha Johnson. After moving to Texas in the 1960s, Rick answered the call to serve his country and was commissioned into the United States Navy on March 31, 1967. During his distinguished military career, he accomplished the highly respected achievement of becoming a Top Gun Naval aviator, a testament to his dedication, discipline, and exceptional skill.
During his Navy years, Rick welcomed his two children, Lance and Lisa, into his life. In 1982, he married the love of his life, Lindi Parker. Together, Rick and Lindi shared 43 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, devotion, laughter, and unwavering partnership.
Rick was a remarkable man of great strength, integrity, patience, and quiet gentleness. He carried a deep love for his family, a tireless work ethic, and a passion for the Western way of life. He found his greatest joy outdoors, especially working on the ranch — baling hay, working cattle, riding horses, and caring for the land he loved so dearly. His love for animals reflected the size of his heart, and he was rarely seen without one of his beloved dogs faithfully by his side.
Gifted with an incredible ability to fix almost anything, Rick was someone family and friends could always depend on. Whether solving a difficult problem, lending a helping hand, or offering calm wisdom and encouragement, he did everything with humility and care. He loved deeply and lived a life defined by loyalty, kindness, and quiet strength.
Rick will be remembered for his warm heart, steady presence, wonderful sense of humor, and the lasting legacy of love, integrity, and devotion he leaves behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Martha Johnson; his nephew, Richard Luppen; and his brother-in-law, Vernon Olsen.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Lindi Johnson of Grandview; his son, Lance Johnson and wife, Rosa, of Midlothian; his daughter, Lisa Kirk and husband, Kevin Kirk, of Waco; his cherished grandchildren, Scout, Ashlyn, Jocelyn, Colton, Clayton, and Caylee; his sisters, Karen Olsen and Wilma “Billie” Luppen and husband, Edward; his nieces and nephews, Mayla, Lawrence, Vicki, Bill Dean, Bob, Kelly, Darcy, and Danny, Tave and Matthew; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
The family would also like to give special recognition to Guillermo Mendoza, a loyal friend and companion who worked tirelessly alongside Rick on the ranch for many years and loved him dearly.
In addition, the family extends heartfelt gratitude to two very special caregivers, Pam and Tandra, whose compassion, love, and devoted care brought great comfort to Rick during his time of need. The family would also like to recognize the incredible staff at Residency at Ridgewood for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided during Rick’s final days.
