A funeral service for David Russell Cowell, 74, of Cleburne will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel located at 512 N. Ridgeway, Cleburne, Texas. interment will follow at 4:00 P.M in Poe Prairie Cemetery in Milsap, Texas. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service starting at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday.
David Cowell, born on November 9, 1950, peacefully departed this world on May 16, 2025. A cherished member of his community, David dedicated a significant part of his life to serving others in law enforcement, working with both the Parker County Sheriffs Office and the DFW Airport Police Department. David retired from Fort Worth Air Route Traffic Control Center starting as a controller then as a supervisor. Then he went on to teach at Air Traffic Control in Oklahoma City. His commitment to safety and service exemplified his deep sense of duty and care for those around him.
In addition to his critical roles in law enforcement, David adorned his life with many passions. A commercial pilot, he found joy both in the skies and the life he built on the ground. He was known for his love of tractors, often sharing this enthusiasm with friends and family. David also had a profound love for literature, particularly the world of science fiction, allowing his imagination to soar alongside his flying aspirations.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Hurl Milton and Ella Lois Poyner Cowell; brother, Craig Cowell; and sister, Cynthia Bishop.
David is survived by his wife, Pat Cowell; son, Kasey Dan Cowell; grandchildren, Coben, Sofia and Emma; brothers, Barry Cowell and Tony Cowell.
Those who knew David appreciated his great sense of humor and his unwavering faith. He was an active member of his church community, where he led singing, showcasing his love for music, particularly 4-part harmony that brought together voices in joyful unison.
David's legacy of service, laughter, and faith will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him, and he will be missed deeply by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
