Charles Pearson

A Local Respected Musician Passes at 75, on Sunday February 2nd, 2014.
Charles Hirst Pearson was born on October 11th, 1938, son to Mary Adeline Pearson and Newton Hirst Pearson. Raised in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and attended Polytechnic High School where he was a member of the Poly High School Marching 100, and was recognized for his exceptional guitar playing.

He attended Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth for two years, and continued his education and earned a Degree at Iowa State University.

In 1965, with upright Bass in hand, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he played at several major hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. While there, he played for Pete Barbutti, Don Cornell, Sam Butera, Lola Falana, James Darren, Roy Clark, Tammy Wynette, and Patti James. During this time, he made the switch to the electric Bass, which was in more demand than the upright Bass.

In 1968 he met and married Sydell Schulman and shortly thereafter the couple moved to Nassau Bahamas where he played in the Don Ragon Orchestra at the Paradise Island Hotel. Later that year, their son Brian W. Pearson was born at Princess Margaret Hospital. After two years of playing with the band the family moved back to Las Vegas where Charles picked up his playing career on the Strip, and volunteered his time playing for the Las Vegas Civic Symphony.

In 1983 Charles relocated to Oklahoma where he played with Forrest Wasson and the Shangri La Orchestra. Not long after he moved home to Dallas/Ft. Worth where he continued his musical career and began working for the JCPenney Company. During this time he continued to play at several local clubs including the Petroleum Club and the Ridglea Country Club for several years with Joe Felix and George Beaty. Also during this time played on cruise ships and on The Mississippi Queen in Louisiana.
Charles Hirst Pearson was loved by many and his musical talents appreciated by all who heard him play. He will be missed.
