A funeral service for Candace Gay (Wooten) Johnston, 76, of Cleburne, will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 18, 2025 in the Crosier Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel, located at 512 N Ridgeway Dr, Cleburne, TX 76033, with Pastor Jerry Melson officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery, Cleburne with Autumn Press, Joey Press, Steven Goodloe, Shane Johnston, Gary Hamilton, Nolan Noblett, and Lisa Hamilton serving as pallbearers. There will be a time of visitation for family and friends at 9:00 AM at the funeral home prior to service.
Candace Gay (Wooten) Johnston, born on December 18, 1948, in Fort Worth, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Cleburne, Texas. She was a beloved figure known for her warmth, culinary talents, and vibrant spirit. Candace's cooking was legendary, with her pies evoking tears of joy from those who were fortunate enough to savor them. Her passion for baking extended to holiday favorites like candy cane cookies, filling her home with sweet aromas and cherished memories. She is remembered for having three-hour lunches with her sisters, wonderful memories.
One would always hear Candace exclaiming, "WOW!!!!". She was best described as "Marie" from the sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond."
Candace was a devoted mother and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love who brought immense joy to her life.
Candace is preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Travis Johnston; her parents, Willie Eugene Wooten and Dolores Laverne Wilson; grandson, Zane Hamilton, and her sister, Regina Moore.
She is survived by her children; Autumn and her husband Joey Press, Shane and his wife Connie Johnston, and Lisa and her husband Gary Hamilton; grandchildren, Atlee, Travis, and Grayson Press; Raylynn, Lastin, Casey, and Jessica Johnston, Kayleigh Ford, Bliss Goodloe, and Stetson Hamilton; five great-grandchildren; sister, Sherry Noblett and sister-in-law, Diane Hammons.
Candace's spirit and talent will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and anyone who had the joy of tasting her delicious creations.
