Service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 10, 2024 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow in George’s Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the funeral home.

 

Betty Lou (Carper) Curtis, 71, of Arlington, Texas passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Arlington Memorial Hospital.

 

Born the fourth of five children to Cecil and Cora (Leverett) Carper on July 27, 1952, in Cleburne, TX. She attended Rio Vista High School, where she played volleyball and was captain of the basketball team. She was President of her Class Offices and of the Future Homemakers of America. She was Secretary of the Student Council and a member of the Lone Willow 4-H Club. Upon graduation in 1970, she attended Hill Junior College in Hillsboro, TX. Betty enjoyed playing basketball at Hulen Park in Cleburne, where she met the love of her life, Brady Curtis. They married August 19, 1972 at the Church of Christ in Cleburne. They made a home in Arlington and were they had a son, Brandon, and a daughter, Brianna. Betty began work as a secretary with the Federal Aviation Administration in 1974 and retired forty years later in 2014 as the Financial Team Manager in charge of a two-billion-dollar budget spanning seventeen states.

 

Betty loved Elvis and his music, she enjoyed going to see Elvis impersonators. She was very talented at sewing and often made clothes and crafts for family and friends. She was a fan of the Texas Rangers, was ecstatic to watch them win their first World Series in 2023 and win their opening game just a few days before she passed. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, wife and mother but her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She was blessed with a granddaughter, Lillian in 2015 and a grandson, Frank in 2017. She loved spending time with them and spoiling them rotten. They affectionately called her “Bet” and she would always tell them “Bet loves you big as the sky”.

 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Pugh and her brother-in-law Albert Pugh.

 

Survivors include her husband, Brady; son, Brandon; daughter Brianna Tofel and son-in-law David; granddaughter Lillian Tofel and grandson Frank Tofel; one brother John Carper and wife Peggy; two sisters, Janie Junge and husband Glenn and Doris Stout and husband Johnny; and many nieces and nephews.
