A memorial service for Betty Jean (Calhoun) Hommel, 79, of Cleburne will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel located at 512 N Ridgeway Dr, Cleburne, TX 76033 with Reverend Ken Coleman officiating. There will be a time of visitation for family and friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the funeral home.
Betty (Calhoun) Hommel passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Cleburne. She was born on March 12, 1947, in Hugo, Oklahoma.
Betty dedicated over a decade of her professional life to serving others through her career with the State of Texas Commission for the Blind. Her dedication and commitment in this impactful role touched many lives and left a lasting impression within her community and workplace.
In her personal life, Betty was a loving and devoted mother, placing her children at the center of her world. She found immense joy in her grandchildren, delighting in opportunities to spoil them, and often reached out for their wisdom with technology—cherishing those moments of connection and laughter. Betty’s warmth and humor were constants in her home, where her family drew strength and comfort from her presence.
A lover of British mysteries, Betty enjoyed immersing herself in these stories, sharing this enjoyment with those around her. Her genuine curiosity and enthusiasm made her companionship truly special.
Family, devotion, and kindness defined Betty’s character. Those who knew her will remember her selfless spirit, the affection she so readily gave, and the gentle wisdom she shared.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ollie Calhoun; brothers, Michael Calhoun and Bud Calhoun, and sister, Pat Grizzle.
Survivors include her children, James Hommel, Tracy Pruett & her husband, Mike, and Jason Hommel & his wife, Nicole; grandchildren, Colby Hommel, Bradon Pruett, Taylor Pruett, Kelsey Hommel, Madeline Pruett, Remi Hommel, and Raylee Hommel; great-grandchild, Salem; brother, Billy Wayne Calhoun & his wife, Edna; close friend, Vicki Powers, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
