Obituary

James Edward Miner is the middle child of Hubert Sr. and Esther Lee (Grimes) Miner. He was born on October 12, 1949, in San Mateo, California.

He attended Ravenswood Middle School in East Palo Alto, CA, Menlo Atherton High School in Menlo Park, CA and Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, CA.

He was a supervising security guard for Space Systems Loral where he was loved and admired by many co-workers who still speak fondly of him to this day.

In May of 1973, he married Linda Jean (Philyaw) Miner and in October 1974, they celebrated the birth of their daughter, Jalynn Marie Miner.

As a young man, he loved dressing sharp and attending concerts with close friends. He also loved playing basketball and attending a variety of professional sporting events. He enjoyed traveling from California to Cleburne, Texas to spend summers with family and friends. An avid domino player, he enjoyed having fun and spending time with his friends who commonly referred to him as “Pookie.”

In 1997, he moved to Texas to be near his parents which served as a mutual blessing for all. Together they enjoyed their days and helped each other with the things that often mark the winter of life.

His favorite pastimes as a more seasoned adult were watching westerns, having fun father-daughter conversations, playing & winning uno games, going to see action packed thrillers at the movies with his daughter, attending cousins’ parties, and reading about, watching and talking about a variety of sports with relatives and friends. Sharp as a tack when it came to sports, he was truly a professional sportscaster living in a couch potato’s body. He knew more stats for players and teams than most sportcasters have probably dreamed of knowing about let alone remembering.

What stands out the most about him is his heart, his kind spirit, his stories about his life experiences, his generosity and his sincere desire of wanting the best for others. He always made people around him feel important, special, and valued. When you hear people speak of him, you know without a doubt that he was a loving, thoughtful and generous spirit.

He enjoyed his life and encouraged others to do the same. He was looking forward to enjoying eternal life and reconnecting with his parents, grandson and other loved ones.

He went home to be with the Lord and onto his heavenly reward on Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Elijah James Edwards.
He leaves behind to remember, honor and celebrate his life, his daughter, Jalynn Marie Miner of Tracy, CA.; brothers, Hubert Miner, Jr. of Cleburne, TX and Phillip Wayne Miner and husband John Pekel of Jacksonville, FL; niece, Malaika Sovenski and husband Steve of Antelope, CA.; great niece Zoe Sovenski of Antelope, CA.; nephews Hubert Emil Miner of Atlanta, GA., Aaron Hamilton of Pleasant Hill, CA.; god-nephews, Troy D. Matson of Jacksonville, FL:., Jamal R. Story of Brooklyn, NY and a host of loving cousins.

His legacy of love, kindness and generosity will tarry on through the lives of those he continues to touch.
