Graveside service for Gila Rae McAnally, 87, of Rio Vista, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Monday, January 27, 2020 in the Rio Vista Cemetery. Her son Mr. Frank McAnally will officiate. Pallbearers will be Randy, Hughes, Justin McAnally, Mitchell McAnally, Craig Hughes, Dennis McAnally, and Johnny McAnally. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home.

Gila was born May 10, 1932 in Howard, Alabama during the Great Depression. Howard was a mining camp town. She had fond memories of playing in the coal piles before moving to Fayette, Alabama in 1939. World War II brought about many changes as her sister Avanelle, moved back home with her daughter Judy. Her brother’s wife Aileen also moved in, while their husbands went off to war. This time in her life created a lifelong bond with her family and Alabama.

In 1956, Gila married Kenneth McAnally, and shortly there after, moved to Texas. Her mother was against the marriage, since she knew her child would be moving a world away at that time. But her mom followed a few years later to help with the children while Gila worked.

Gila is survived by three children, Andrew McAnally and wife Teresa of Georgetown, Ramona Cox of Cleburne, Frank McAnally and wife Gayla of Frisco;

Gila McAnally worked in Real Estate in Birmingham, Alabama before moving to Texas. After ten years of living in various places in the DFW metroplex, they finally found home in Rio Vista where they lived for over 50 years

Gila worked for many years at McClure parts Warehouse before retiring to spend more time with
grandchildren, Holly McAnally of Denver, CO, Randy Hughes and wife Emily of Cleburne, Stephanie Lunsford and husband Wesley of Austin, Justin McAnally of Frisco, Rebecca McAnally of Austin, Mitchell McAnally and wife Kate of McKinney, Jennifer McAnally of Leander, Craig Hughes and wife Lauren of Rio Vista.

Following this Gila returned to work part time at 4M Parts Warehouse in Cleburne, Texas where she retired again at the age of 81. Then along came the great grandchildren, Brooke Hughes, Kane Lunsford, Hailey McAnally and Kennedy Rae McAnally. All a great joy in her final years before her short illness. Also survived by brother Butch Key, whose home has always been where he was needed most, from Alabama to Texas, to Singapore.

Also survived by sister- in –law Kitty Key of Dora Alabama; sister –in-law Nancy McAnally of Richland, Texas and sister-in-law Mary Nelon and husband John of Douglas WY. and sister-in-law Vicki Blackmon of Pampa.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Forrest and Wilford, her parents, and brothers Rutherford, Luther and Eddie and sister Avanelle and son-in-law Don Cox Granddaughter Lisa Hughes, and husband of 61 years, Kenneth McAnally.

Many thanks to Community Hospice and their staff. Especially Deborah and Gabby.

Gila loved going to church all of her life. Thank you to her friends at Blum and Parker Church of Christ, and her friends from church in Rio Vista and Cleburne. With her passing, her joy is now complete.

I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Ms Gila untill later on in life but I must say she was a sweetheart and could make you feel at ease in the first 5 minutes of meeting her just like Mr.McAnally. I used to make pickles for them and they would bring by ALL the things I needed to make them.( Every single item from jars, seals, lids, baby cucumbers, fresh dill and every thing in between) They tried to pay me for making them and I would tell her that I was in awe about how much they liked them. ( I really was flattered). Her kindness, sweetness and her ability to make you feel like you had known her for a very long time was just a few of the many things that come to mind when I think of her. Mona and Craig I am so deeply sorry for your loss and if there is anything I can do please just let me know.

I could not have had a better sister in law, Gila was like a sister. Always ready to help me, encourage me or just let me talk. She was a very devoted person not only her family but anyone she could help. Kenneth was very lucky to find such a devoted Christian lady for his wife. and get her to come to Texas with him. I will certainly miss her love and advice.
