Obituary

Service for Gene H. Hodges, 79, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 9, 2020 at Henderson Street Baptist Church. Reverend Neale Oliver will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenacres Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M., Thursday, October 8, 2020 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Allen Day, Harlow Wood, William Parker, Fred Parker, Arty Seamon, Monty Franks, Johnny Miracle and Kent Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Leo Roye, John Boog-Scott and Mike Rose.

Gene H. Hodges passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 in Cleburne. He was born May 13, 1941 in Hillsboro to James Henry and Mamie Wanda (Brisco) Hodges, Gene married Marilyn Percival on April 27, 1962 in Ennis. He was a member of Henderson Street Baptist Church.

Gene was raised in Cleburne. At an early age he began working in construction and carried on with his career as a contractor for Padon Construction, Hays Construction and DSA Construction building Churches, Schools and Funeral Homes. He was a master at operating a backhoe and loved refurbishing old tractors. He loved his wife with all his heart and his children. He was most proud with the name Poppi to his Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Hodges of Cleburne; sons and daughters, Rusty and Stephanie Hodges of Godley, Joel and Paige Henslee of Cleburne, Ronald and Paula Maples of Cleburne; grandchildren, Brittni Hodges of Godley, Tensley Hodges of Godley, Trevor Hodges and Lacey Terry of Lubbock, Austin and Destini Henslee of Cleburne, Doug and Kallie Clements of Cleburne, Austin and Taylor Eschbach of Cleburne; great-grandchildren, Sapphire and Emerald Henslee, Knox, Kameryn and Kase Clements, Adelynn and Ronny Eschbach all of Cleburne; brother, James and Martha Hodges of Hillsboro; sister, Shirley and Grover Beckham of Waco and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Gene is preceded in death by his mother and father, James Henry and Mamie Hodges, siblings, Doris Medford, Joyce Giles, Bobby Hodges and Wanda Miller, Mother and Father in Love, John and Charlie Percival.

Memorials may be made to the Henderson Street Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund or National Kidney Foundation.
