Obituary

Drena L. Bechtel, 71, of Blum, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019, in Fort Worth. She was born January 24, 1948 in Topeka, KS to Perry and Dorothy Bean. Drena was mother of two loving daughters, and wife of C. Richard Bechtel. They were happily married for over 50 years. She was the co-owner and office manager of a small engine repair business for over 35 years.

Drena was proud of her time in the high school band, playing the flute. She delighted in raising, training and riding Arabian horses, and was a barrel racer in her youth. After she retired, she devoted herself to an assisted living facility where she valued the time she spent taking care of the residents. Drean had a very nurturing personality, finding purpose and comfort in giving of herself, to the benefit of others.

Drena is best remembered by those who knew her as a woman of immense character; a nurturing soul who put service to others above self-interest. Hers was a gentle soul. She loved her family and she found joy and wonder in life. Drena is survived by her husband, Richard Bechtel; daughters, Anna Wallace and husband Mark; Susan Peters and husband Timothy; grandson, John Wallace; brother, David Bean and wife Barbara; sister Debra Bean and numerous nieces and nephews.

Drena is preceded in death by her, parents as well as her sisters Sabra Charline Colson, and Kayleen Falati.

I remember one winter night, in Blum TEXAS. Everyone was hungry, Drena thought I was crazy, but she let me look thru all of frozen food and stuff she had in the ice box. We ended up inventing a very good shrimp dinner that everyone really enjoyed. Drena was a very giving and caring person. It was a privilege to know her. She will be missed.
