Obituary for Jimmie D. Songer

Jimmie D. Songer
Jimmie D. Songer, 84, of Burleson peacefully left this world in the comfort of his own home on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in the presence of loved ones.
Jimmie was a self-taught inventor and entrepreneur. He held numerous patents relating to 3D video display and high definition TV. With only a seventh grade education, he was considered a genius by many of his peers.
He received a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2002. The research report by AMPAS to support the award states “... it can be concluded that the development of Video Assist by Jim Songer has had one of the most significant impacts of any technical development in the history of the film industry.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Delbert and Lena Mae Songer, brothers, David and George Songer, nephew, Justin, and brother-in-law, Raymond McKittrick.
Jimmie is survived by his sisters, Rae Ann McKittrick of Cleburne, Peggy Clement and husband Walter of Burleson, sister-in-law, Velda Songer, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mission Hospice and to his longtime friend and caregiver, Bill George for their loving compassionate care.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4-6 P.M., Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home.
