Worth, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 in the DFW National Cemetery. Rev. Edward Evans will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday, from 5-8 with a Masonic Ceremony beginning at 6:00 p.m.
William Dorrie (Dee) Evans was born on March 14, 1925, in Moran, Eastland County, Texas, to Printus Clifford Evans and Opal Lee Simpson Evans. He graduated from Azle High School and immediately went into the United States Army at the age of 17 to fight in Germany in World War II. During operations in Belgium, he sustained an injury for which he received the Purple Heart.In 1946, he began surveying in Somervell and Hood Counties. By the early 1950s, he was surveying in the oilfields of West Texas and southeastern New Mexico. He became a Registered Public Surveyor in Texas in 1955. In 1958, he became registered in New Mexico. He ran extensive pipeline surveys through the states of Texas, North Carolina, Arizona, California, Wyoming, Montana, and Louisiana After extended service with Brown and Root, he opened an office in Cleburne, Texas with his son, Michael. Heretired from active practice in 2005 after 50 years as a Registered Professional Land Surveyor. He was a Freemason having attained the 32nd degree through the Scottish Rite. He was a Past Worthy Patron of the South Hills Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Fort Worth. He was in the Boy Scouts of America serving for many years as a Scouter with Troop 850 in Houston. He was also Past Commander of Flotilla 61 of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He and his wife, Ann, were instrumental in establishing the first local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart in Cleburne, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and by his wife Anna May Marshall. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cyndi Evans of Mansfield; his grand children, Heather, Sean and Ryan Evans of Mansfield, his brother and sisters, Willadean Ball, Ida Lou Ownby, and Edward Evans of Fort Worth, and several nieces and nephews.
